Ingredients:
+ 8 ounces (about 225 grams) of spaghetti
+ 1 can (14 ounces) of crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce
+ 2 tablespoons olive oil
+ 2 cloves of garlic, minced
+ 1 small onion, finely chopped
+ 1 teaspoon dried oregano
+ 1 teaspoon dried basil
+ 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for some heat)
+ Salt and pepper to taste
+ Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)
+ Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
Cook the spaghetti:
– Fill a large pot with water and add a generous pinch of salt. Bring the water to a boil.
– Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to the package instructions or until it’s al dente (cooked but still slightly firm to the bite).
– Once cooked, drain the spaghetti and set it aside.
Prepare the Tomatoes Sauce:
– In a medium-sized saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
– Add the minced garlic and chopped onion. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onions become translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings:
– Pour in the crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce and stir well.
– Add the dried oregano, dried basil, and red pepper flakes (if using).
– Season with salt and pepper to taste. Start with a pinch of salt and adjust as
needed.
Simmer the Sauce:
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken.
Combine the Sauce and Spaghetti:
Add the cooked and drained spaghetti to the tomato sauce. Toss everything together to coat the spaghetti evenly with the sauce.
Decorate:
– Serve the spaghetti with tomato sauce on plates or in bowls.
– If desired, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top and garnish with fresh basil leaves.
– Enjoy your delicious homemade spaghetti with tomato sauce!
